Admittedly, I’m a little silly proud at McCallum football given I don’t even have a kiddo there …. yet.  But someday I will and I am so proud Mac is the high school my girls will attend, for so many reasons.  This fall, the football team was a huge part of that pride!  History! And so many Allandale men on the team, who were 5th graders at Gullett when my family began its time in the neighborhood schools.  In fact, in 2014, we published an article about a group of boys who had been playing football together for years already, then.  That group was: JB Faught, Davis Roe, Hayden Fowler, Jack Masters, Ian Carson, Calvin Moore, Sam Miller, Miles Mosby,  Mason Bryant, Jacob Greenberg, Caleb Herpin, Judah Copeland, Eric LaWare,

Now, these men are seniors and, on Friday after Thanksgiving, most still together, made history for the school, the first time the team was 12-0 since 1966.  This Sat, at noon, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, we hope the Knights will keep on rocking!  Meantime, I wanted to re-share this article from Brandon Faught from Aug 2014, and some great pics of these boys as they grew up together in football.  Brandon wasn’t wrong when he said there was a strong future ahead with this group of young men!

Congratulations to ALL the McCallum football team and coaches, trainers, support staff, band, cheerleaders, Blue Brigade.  We are so proud of you all!  Best of luck in San Antonio, all of Allandale is cheering you on!

Strong future ahead for McCallum Football thanks to Allandale youth
From Pop Warner to the Friday Night Lights of House Park the football tradition in Allandale runs deep. For some of Allandale’s young men football has been a way of life since their playground days at Gullett Elementary and they are carrying that way of life on to the field at McCallum this fall. A strong core of Allandale’s youth have been playing football with each other on the same team since the 4th grade and have continued to play together as a team through Middle School and now onto McCallum. The dedication and love for the game for this group of boys has paid off. After a rough first season with West Austin Pop Warner the football boys stuck it out and returned as a team again the following year to become the only team in the organization to make it into the playoffs. With the majority of that team moving on to Lamar Middle School they went undefeated, beating schools that had a population twice their size, to become the AISD City Champions in 2012. After another successful season and another Zone Championship under their belts in 2013 the core group Allandale players are moving onto McCallum this coming fall where they hope to continue their success on and off the field.

Although you may not see these incoming Freshman playing under the Friday night lights at House Park with the Varsity Team this season their presence is sure to be felt in the years to come. McCallum’s Freshman football Coach (Coach G) said, “This is the group of Boys we have had our eye on for a long time” and new McCallum Head Football Coach (Charles Taylor) said he is, “Excited about the future of the football program.”

The core group of players from Allandale have done great things in their young football careers so far and have no intentions of letting up. They plan to carry on their tradition of excellence in High School and represent Allandale and McCallum in the State High School Playoffs. Incoming Freshman JB Faught said, “I don’t think people realize how hard we have worked as a team to get where we are. We practice all year long and work really hard in the off season to get better.”
