Join the Composting Community! Register today for a FREE composting class presented by the City of Austin.  Composting is nature's way of recycling.  It is an easy, all-natural method of turning much of your yard and kitchen waste into a valuable landscape amendment. Composting conserves resources, creates less waste, and contributes to a beautiful, healthy green garden.
According to the EPA, more food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in the waste stream. In 2010 alone, more than 34 million tons of food waste was generated, with only 3 percent diverted from landfills and incinerators for composting.
What can you do? Shop smart, cook smart…and compost!  Rather than sending your food scraps and lawn clippings to the landfill, you can compost them to create a nutrient-rich fertilizer for your garden or lawn.
Register to attend this free composting class and learn how!  This class is part of the City of Austin's Home Composting Rebate Program. Austin residents who pay the Clean Community Fee on their utility bill qualify for a $75 rebate on a home composting system.
