Yesterday was a great day to be outdoors and a great day for a Bike Rodeo. We had a good turnout for the event. Kids who participated in the Bike Rodeo had their bikes checked, their helmets fitted, learned bike safety skills, and entered in the Slow Bike Race. Everyone who completed all stages of the rodeo received a set of front and back safety lights for their bikes. Christopher Stanton and volunteers from the Ghisallo Foundation conducted the event; they chalked out various courses on the Lamar parking lot and took the bike riders through it. It was a well-organized, fun event. Many thanks to Christopher and crew!

rainbow bikerSun & Ski and Nelo’s Bikes were kept busy throughout the event checking out everyone’s bike and making minor adjustments/fixes. Sun & Ski also kicked in two $25 gift certificates as prizes. We had a number of kids from Gullett participate as well as ones from Lamar. Neighbors dropped off bikes for the bike swap. The ones that were not taken will be given to the Boys and Girls Club East Campus for their bike repair/workshop clinic. The clinic is put on by the Ghisallo Foundation. Thanks to Laura DiCarlo for getting everyone registered at the rodeo and for bringing brownies and bannanas. Overall, the second Lamar Bike Rodeo Bike Swap, Slow Race and Fix it Event was an enjoyable community event.
