The $575 million bond package that the Bond Election Advisory Task Force is sending on to the City Council for consideration includes $27 million for improvements to Burnet Road and North Lamar Boulevard. The improvements are of particlular importance to Allandale with development along these two activity corridors, congestion and safety concerns on the rise. A coalition of North Austin residents monitored the progress of these proposed improvements throughout the process, attending and providing public comment to the Task Force and its Transportation Subcommittee advocating for their inclusion in the overall bond package. While the details on the improvements being considered for Burnet Road would be worked out in the design phase  of project following passage of bonds, what is being proposed could include sidewalks, wide bike lanes, a tree-lined boulevard, mid-block pedestrian crossings, and an overhaul of major intersections to make them pedestrian-friendly. You will find an article about what is being considered for Burnet Road in the February Allandale Neighbor newsletter.
