Rezoning for a multi-family development at 8100 Burnet Rd received Austin City Council approval on the first of three readings on Thursday. The proposed development, where Ross Store and the former Chuck E Cheese are located, would be rezoned to accommodate an apartment complex with 270-300 units along with some retail. According to a report on KUT, some council members are concerned there are no affordability requirements for the development. You will find an article about the proposed development in the March issue of the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood News here.
In a related story, tomorrow Cap Metro is expected to announce the receipt of a $38 million grant to fund in part a metro rapid transit line on Burnet Rd. According to a report, the rapid transit line will replace the current number 3 bus that runs from North Burnet to South Lamar and will save riders considerable time because the number 3 has so many stops.
