The Austin City Council voted to ban disposal bags (paper and plastic) at all retail checkout counters starting in March 2013. The ban, which will be the most extensive in the country, will allow retailers to only use resuable bags. Single-use bags for bulk foods, meat, fish, produce, newspaper delivery, dry cleaning, and restaurant carry out foods will be exempt. Click here for today’s Statesman story on the ban voted on at last night’s city council meeting.
