Please be advised. Parks Department leadership has requested that we cancel Sunday’s tree watering demonstration. Sorry for any disruption this causes in your schedule. Please continue to distribute the supplemental watering flier to anyone who might be interested. Our trees need some TLC during this drought.
This Sunday, July 24th, the City of Austin will be offering a free workshop for citizens that will focus on sustaining tree health during periods of drought while reducing water usage to protect the aquifers.
The Parks and Recreation Department’s Urban Forestry Program, Austin Water Utility’s Water Conservation Program, and the Austin Parks Foundation are hosting the workshop at Zilker Park’s Rock Garden Picnic Area, south of the Zilker moonlight tower, from 8:00AM – 10:00AM. The workshop will focus on proper watering techniques—including frequency, duration, and timing—as well as other tree care practices that enhance the benefits of tree watering and enhance trees’ water utilization. The recommendations will be framed around the Stage 1 water use rules currently in effect. Experts will be on hand at the event to answer tree watering and care questions.
