Public Works 2011-2012 Sidewalks Plan Includes Sidewalk Down 2222
City of Austin's Public Works Department presented a list of sidewalk projects to the Urban Transportation Commission on Tuesday February 8. The list includes a project to fill in sidewalk gaps on 2222 from Northland all the way to N Lamar. It also includes a sidewalk on White Horse Trail from Nasco to Wynona. Both sidewalks are part of the Lamar MS Safe Routes to School Plan. The sidewalk on 2222 would connect six schools (Lamar, McCallum plus four private schools), the HEB grocery store, and two planned MetroRapid stations.
The City's Transportation Department has also confirmed it will make safety improvements around Lamar MS, including a painted pedestrian crossing at White Horse Tr and Wynona, realignment of a utility box that blocks a crossing at Burnet and Wynona, and dividers in the south-bound right turn-lane at Burnet-2222 to better protect the crosswalk from sudden lane switches.
