The City of Austin has launched an online Media Center , a “one-stop” resource to help keep the community informed and involved in City government. The web site includes links to City news releases, memos, videos, social media sites, e-mail subscription services and other tools designed to keep both the public and the media updated on City activities.

“We are continually striving to enhance our transparency and accountability to the residents of Austin ,” City Manager Marc Ott said. “A big part of that is maintaining an open, ongoing dialogue with our community. This updated online resource reflects those efforts and is another step in our goal of becoming the Best Managed City in the country.”The Media Center incorporates a list of departmental contacts, access to Channel 6 web casts and other relevant information to encourage community involvement in City government.  Public Information Requests can be submitted under the Open Records tab.

The Center can be accessed at or through the City’s homepage under the Select a Service menu or the More News and Information link.“We realized that with all of the tools we were using to communicate with the public, there was no central way for people to access them in one place,” Chief Communications Director Doug Matthews said.  “If we want to increase participation and engagement, we need to make it as easy and accessible as possible.”
