safe routes to school On April 22, 2010 millions around the world will celebrate Earth Day this year marking its 40th anniversary. Safe Routes to School suggests you celebrate our Earth year around by reducing the number of cars on the road every day. Walk, bike, ride the school bus, carpool or use public transportation. For every mile you do not drive, you can reduce your carbon footprint by one pound.

Safe Routes To School Program empowers our community to make walking and bicycling to school a safe and routine activity. The Program makes funding available for a wide variety of programs and projects, from building safer street crossings to establishing educational programs that encourage children and adults to walk and bicycle safely.

Community neighbors, local businesses, families, school administrators and faculty are invited to join the Task Group! For more information contact Lamar MS, Safe Routes To School Coordinator Jane Herrin   jhherrin [Email address: jhherrin #AT# - replace #AT# with @ ] or 331-4600.
