The Eggmen at the Paramount Theatre with Full Orchestra
McCallum’s Fine Arts Academy Orchestra backs up Austin’s Favorite Beatles Tribute Band, The Eggmen, in Benefit Concert
Austin, Texas (January 26, 2010) – Austin’s favorite Beatles cover band, The Eggmen, will perform with a full orchestra on Sunday, February 21, at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre. “All You Need Is Love,” “I Am the Walrus,” and “Strawberry Fields Forever” are among the Beatle classics featured. The Eggmen have invited the McCallum Fine Arts Academy Orchestra, under the direction of Ricky Pringle. The concert will benefit The McCallum Orchestra Performance Fund, which will help the award-winning orchestra make an invitational performance at Washington D.C.’s Lincoln Center next year.
“We performed with McCallum last year at the Paramount to help them raise funds for their trip to Carnegie Hall. We had so much fun, we decided to do it again,” said John Burgess (“John”-rhythm guitar, keys, harmonica) of The Eggmen. He added, “It was a huge success for the orchestra, and our fans demanded an encore performance, so it was an easy call.”
Performing together since 1992, The Eggmen are dedicated to recreating The Beatles’ image and sound. Fans have voted The Eggmen “BEST COVER BAND” seven times in the Austin Chronicle Music Awards. In addition, in the 2005 National Music Awards, The Eggmen won “AMERICA’S BEST TRIBUTE BAND.” According to Burgess, “We see ourselves as the keepers of a particularly important flame—live performance of the greatest music of this century (our opinion, of course). We think it’s important to treat the composers’ musical ideas with respectful renditions of the original pieces.”
Opening the benefit concert are special guests, The Apple Trio. This all-girl group will perform their original “chamber-pop” style music. Members Diana Burgess, Caiti Coughlan, and Olivia Erwin are McCallum Orchestra students who are rapidly gaining recognition across Austin as they perform regular public and private events. The Trio has recently released their first CD. Says Caiti Coughlan, “We are excited to front The Eggmen. We have played with them several times, including opening for them on New Year’s Eve—it’s always a blast.”
This event is sponsored by KMFA: Classically Austin 89.5, The Paramount Theatre, and Blackerby Violin Shop.
Tickets for the benefit concert are $22 and $32. Discount students tickets are available for $15 with student ID at the Paramount box office only. Tickets go on sale Saturday, January 30, 2010, at noon. For ticket information call 866.9PROTIX (866-977-6849) or visit AUSTINTHEATRE.ORG
