It's party time…
For those of you that don't know me, my name is Sarah Pierce. For the past fifteen years, I have proudly been a resident of my beautiful Allandale neighborhood.
As well, I am a singer/songwriter. Last year, I thought that it would be nice to have a party. A party to both bring in the holiday season and more importantly, to say thanks to those that have made the last fifteen years in Allandale the very best of my life. I spoke to the good people at The Allandale Neighborhood Association and they agreed. So, with the help of my very dear friend, Roger Beasley, Amy's Ice Cream, Russel's Bakery and, of course, the Association, we had a wonderful afternoon of music, food, and friendship.
It went so well that we've decided to do it again this year. So, on December 6th, at Beverly Sheffield Park, it's once again party time.
Amy's and Phil's will be there to offer great food, the park section that we have reserved (for those of you that were there last year – or – went to the summer picnic, this is the same area up above and just south of the lake) allows for folks to bring coolers with their favorite beverages, a stage will be in place, and there will be music everywhere.
Again, this is an opportunity for me to say thanks – and for our beautiful neighborhood to come together in a joyful way to ring in the holidays.
Bring your friends, kids, dogs, everyone. Lets, for a couple hours, put everything else aside and just come together as the beautiful neighborhood that we are.
As you'll see below, this year is going to be a LOT OF FUN!!!! Party starts at 1P. See you there.
Great new music
Brian Strange and the Strange Brothers
Brian Strange (a.k.a. Big B) started playing guitar and writing songs at the ripe old age of 26 after his sweet wife encouraged him to find another passion other than golf. One that would be better suited to raising a young family. So he purchased a guitar and Mel Bay lesson book and headed down a road that would prove to be most rewarding. Big B began playing and trying his new material every Wednesday at a local venue during the time the regular band would take it's breaks…he'd would bring his three young children on stage with him so he could keep an eye on them. The crowd loved watching those little kids on stage with their daddy. Now, fast forward 10 years of patience and practice, the Strange Brothers, Austin (14) and Jake (12) have taken after their father. Austin is now a young harmonica virtuoso and Jake is an amazing young mandolinist.
This family band gets standing ovations whenever they perform. I am so proud to be able to present them to our neighbors and friends.
An old friend…
For those of you that were at last years party, you had the pleasure of seeing my dear friend Eric Hanke perform. For those that were not, here is a chance to see one of the great, new, young Texas singer/songwriters in action.
Eric released his first recording, Autumn Blues, in 2006. It was called, by Michael Corcoran – entertainment editor for the Austin American Statesman – one of the ten best albums of that year. He's now, in the process of recording his next with my husband, Merel Bregante, in our Allandale studio – The Cribworks Digital Audio. A truly talented songwriter, Eric has written great new songs as a follow up to his amazing first album. I am sure he will be performing both the old songs and previewing the new at this years party.
…I have to get in on the fun.
I am so proud of my band. Last year we had a great time playing for the party. This year, I want to perform again…after all it IS my party 🙂 This year, there are two new members. If you liked what we did last year, you really need to come see what we are up to now. Allow me to quickly brag about the 'new guys so you can better understand my excitement!'
Kenny Grimes – acoustic and electric guitar and vocals… For the last 5 years, prior to joining the Sarah Pierce Band, Kenny worked with Curb recording artist Hal Ketchum. He has also performed with artists such as Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hank Thompson, Shelly West, Chris Wall, Gary P. Nunn, and Johnny Gimble to name a few. In fifty words or less, what can I say about Kenny Grimes. Maybe that he is a really nice guy. Maybe that he makes me laugh 'till it hurts. Maybe that he may well be the finest lead guitarist I have ever had the honor of playing with…and I have played with some great ones. Maybe, I have now gone over my fifty word limit and I'll stop. OK, one last thing. Kenny Grimes is the best.
Carl Loschiavo – acoustic double and electric bass and vocals – I have been a fan of Carls playing for a long time having seen him play with various artists in the Austin area. Both as an electric player and even more so as an acoustic bass player…at the University of Miami, he spent 5 years as a jazz performance major as well as touring the US gaining invaluable experience 'on the road.' His understanding of many musical styles brings an interesting…and I think unique…'voice' to my music. His experience is vast and his talent exceptional. This talent has allowed him the privilege of opening the Monterey International Jazz Festival for Chick Corea and the late Dizzy Gillespie. We are all really proud of having Carl be a part of what I feel is the best band of which I have ever been a part.
Along with my 'old guys,' Doug Hudson (Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keene) and Merel (too many to mention) this is the new Sarah Pierce Band. I am both excited and honored to present these great musicians to you all. If you liked what we did last year, you really need to come see what we are up to now.
Please know that all the artists have agreed to donate 50% of any merchandise sales to The Austin Humane Society…Austin's largest no kill, non-profit animal adoption shelter dedicated to saving Austin's homeless cats and dogs. For all the furry little critters that this wonderful organization protects, thank you Brian and Eric.
And finally, I want to again thank Mr. Roger Beasley For being the primary sponsor for this and many other Allandale events. When I think of great neighbors, Roger Beasley is at the top of the list.
So! December 6th, 1PM, Beverly Sheffield Park, cool music, great food, total family fun, neighbors greeting old and making new friends, getting a chance to start the holiday season in a safe and gentle way.
Bring friends and we'll see you there.
