Northwest Park Tree Planting

February 28, 2009
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Allandale is hosting tree planting at Northwest Park with leadership provided by Tree Folks. 50 trees are scheduled to be planted. The native species were selected based on input from neighbors who participated in the Backyard Wildlife Habitat program.

Volunteers will receive training on how to properly plant container trees. The holes will be pre-dug for 5 and 15 gallon sized trees, volunteers will move soil out of holes, plant and then mulch the trees.

Anyone who is willing to invest elbow grease into beautifying parkland is welcome. This event might not be appropriate for very small children, but regular sized children are welcome. The trees, tools, and water will be provided. Plan to wear comfortable work clothes and closed toed shoes, and please bring gloves.

NOTE: This tree planting is Allandale’s prize for taking second place in Austin’s citywide Backyard Wildlife certification competition. The trees were selected under the supervision of certified wildlife habitat specialist Cheryl Silver.

A big thank you to Cheryl, and all of the neighbors that certified their back yards – the trees will be a wonderful addition to Northwest Park!
