The City of Austin is planting about 30 new trees along the medians of Northcross Drive next January 10th, 2009. These trees are free, and the city has committed to watering them the first two years. But we as neighbors have been called upon to help plant the trees.
Emily King, City of Austin Forester, is coordinating this project with us and has asked me to help rally our neighborhood people.
Nine native and adapted tree species have been chosen, and existing vegetation and utility lines were considered in developing this plan.
Perhaps you would like to bring your kids and plant just one tree? What a great teaching experience that could be! What a sense of pride they would have watching "their special tree" grow up!
Maybe there is scout troop out there that needs to earn a badge? This would be a great opportunity.
The more volunteers we have, the easier it will be to plant these new trees. If you are interested in helping, please let me know. All you need to bring is yourself, a pair of gloves and a smile. The city will
provide all other materials and supplies.
I will be in touch with all volunteers with more details and reminders as we get closer to the big day.
To volunteer, please contact me directly.
