Subject: 45th St Reconstruction from Division to Airport – 6/29/05 Update

STREET RECONSTRUCTION WORK The General Contractor should complete the first segment of street reconstruction between Bull Creek and Division (the entrance to Camp Mabry) by the end of this week and then move to the second and final segment of construction in this area.

During the second segment of work from Bull Creek to Division, 45th will continue to be reduced to ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION. From Mopac to Bull Creek traffic will be moved to the south side of the road while the north half of the road is reconstructed. From Mopac to Division traffic will be moved to the west side of the road while the east half of the road is reconstructed.

Entrance and exit ramps to and from Mopac and 45th should remain open during this work.

Upcoming Weekend work: Lamar Intersection: Work is scheduled to take place within the Lamar Intersection this coming three day weekend (7/02 – 7/04). Detours will be in place for first north bound traffic and then south bound traffic. Please follow the signage.

Shoal Creek Intersection: Work is a scheduled to take place within the Shoal Creek intersection this coming three day weekend (7/02 – 7/04). Both Shoal Creek and 45th St will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction.

Duval Intersection: Work has begun on boring a water line under Duval and the west bound 45th turn lane to north bound Duval has been closed. This work will take several weeks.

UTILITY WORK The City’s General Contractor continues their work installing new utility lines (water and wastewater) in 45th Street at various locations between Mopac and Airport Blvd.

The public’s continued cooperation and patience during this project is appreciated.

The 45th Street Project is a utility and street reconstruction project funded by 1998 voter-approved street reconstruction bonds and by the Austin Water Utility. The $15.3 million project started May 21, 2005 and is scheduled to take 14 months. The contractor is Texas Sterling Construction, Inc., from Houston.
